Centuries of Inheritance, Generations of Dedication.
Our History
From the memories of kings and fishermen to the hands of those who took care of this land daily, the story of Quinta da Barrosa is a living narrative of connection to the sea, land and wine.
The Queen's Pier and the Royal Refuge
A Monarchic Refuge in the Lagoon
Located in a strategic position in Braço da Barrosa, the farm is closely linked to the history of the Portuguese monarchy and the Óbidos Lagoon. It was in this arm of water that the historic Cais da Rainha was born, the point where Queen Leonor landed in the fifteenth century on her trips to the thermal baths of Caldas da Rainha. Over the centuries, these margins have attracted other monarchs: D. Sebastião found here his refuge of hunting and fishing, and later, D. Carlos I habitually frequented these waters to study and contemplate its rich biodiversity. Under the mud of the lagoon, Romanesque and centenary archaeological remains remind us that human activity and respect for this place go back millennia.
The Secular Inheritance
Living Memory - Life at the Farm
The Earth Cared for with Hands of Dedication
The recent soul of Quinta da Barrosa began to be drawn on September 15, 1986, with the arrival of Mr. Luís Nobre. Accompanied by his wife and two young daughters ,, Mr Luís took over the responsibility of guarding and working the property. In those early years, the farm was a rural mosaic of vineyards, pine and eucalyptus , where their daughters did their homework with the bards while guarding the cattle, under the watchful eye of their father.
In 1993, the farm entered a new phase under the management of Mr. Eduardo Ferreira Livramento, who reconverted the eucalyptus trees into , vineyards expanding the area to the current 12 hectares. It was also at this time that the farm stopped just selling grapes to start winemaking and bottling on the site itself. Between the oak where Cabernet was aged and the direct delivery of the wine to the local restaurants , a Barrosa conquered the region by word-of-mouth and the quality of its production.
